Last summer, the Tiziano Project successfully ran a pilot program in Northern Iraq teaching young people the multimedia journalism skills necessary to tell stories that are underrepresented in mainstream media.
Near East BureauNow, we are working to create a permanent bureau in Diyarbakir, Turkey that will serve the Kurdish region of Southeast Turkey and Northern Iraq. Our goal is to bring people in these two countries the opportunities they need to tell the stories of their communities.
The objective of the Mentorship Initiative is to educate talented and dedicated locals to be able to produce content for Western news agencies. Using established Western professionals on the ground and online, students are given an intense education with the expectation of soon contributing to established news outlets and becoming journalists. The mentorees are also expected to be able to teach classes to further our objective of self-sustaining media.
Citizen RadioThe citizen radio program works to train groups of locals to work together in advanced radio production with the result being a regular show of a high enough quality to be broadcast by an established outlet. Currently, this program is designed to produce a 30-minute show to be broadcast by Voice of America.
The Forerunner ProgramThe Tiziano Project, in collaboration with The German Development Service (DED), Maison des Jeunes (a youth center in Kigali), and The New Times is working to create a new generation of Rwandan journalists skilled in radio production, writing, photography, video, and online media by training our students in small groups specialized in one skill and then instructing in cross-media production and cooperation.

The Displacement ChronicleThe Displacement Chronicle applies the concept of citizen journalism in eastern Congo to the swelling camps of people forced to flee their homes because of the ongoing war. Local citizen journalists visit the camps to document daily life and death.

The Forerunner ProgramThe Tiziano Project, in partnership with the Mathare Roots Youth Group is working to create a new generation of Kenyan journalists skilled in online multimedia production.
The Tiziano Project is dedicated to creating jobs.
Our students currently sell front-page photos to local newspapers and produce radio content for the Voice of America.
We also teach the concepts and business practices of a freelancer and instruct our students on how to photograph weddings as well as car crashes.
All of our programs are designed to fulfill our ultimate objectives of self-sustaining media and job creation.
